Roby Family Keeps Growing

The Roby Family of Companies launches Roby Realty, a real-estate division that adds to its expansive business portfolio.

The SHB Interview - Wilson Worley, Veteran developer of retirement communities says the industry needs to listen more closely to the customers.

"I will go to my grave believing that you have to be face to face with you consumer," says Worley, who has more than 40 years of development and management experience in retirement communities and healthcare facilities. In 1990, Worley wrote a book entitled Retirement Community Development, The Comprehensive Guide For Professionals. In the last chapter, he made 31 predictions regarding housing and healthcare for seniors. Seniors Housing Business recently sat down with Worley at the LeadingAge Conference in Nashville to discuss his company's evolution and to reflect on his predictions.

Senior Living Renovation: An Investment--Not An Expense

Investing in renovation can be a particularly challenging process, with the need to balance the impact of declining local real estate values and changing competitive market factors with the need to present a "fresh face" to current and prospective residents. Understanding the potential for return on the renovation investment should be a critical step in the decision making process.

Changing Corporate Perception of the Value of Humor

In prison, you spend most of your time in an 8x10 cell. At work, you spend most of your time in a 6x8 cubicle. In prison, the reward for good behavior is time off. As early as the mid-1980's, a survey found that 84% of Vice Presidents and personnel directors in 100 of the largest corporations in the country felt that employees with a sense of humor are more effective on the job than people with little or no sense of humor.

Seminar Marketing On A Budget

If you want to fill a room with qualified prospects for your senior services oriented business, seminar marketing is a true and tried way to do it. But seminar marketing on a budget is not always realistic. With costs running several thousand dollars for a seminar marketing promotion, you can’t afford not to close.

Developers Get Creative to Fund the Next Generation of Senior Living

Senior living providers are finding creative ways to fund their upcoming development projects, with a select few taking advantage of recent federal regulations and programs to produce cost savings. And based on their successes, these innovative funding strategies may soon become common practices among others operating in the senior care space. “Usually, a company had access to a smaller group of investors within their geographical region,” says Steen. “Traditionally, they would find 5-10 high net worth investors, but with CrowdStreet, they now have access to thousands of investors on a secure, online marketplace."

Remodeling benefits from housing recovery

Remodeling activity is going strong as the housing market continues its recovery and is expected to continue to accelerate until the fall, when the pace will likely slow, according to a new study issued by the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University. The study found that homeowner spending on improvements reached $140.5 billion for ...

Quality is Not a Commodity

Though a home is the largest investment for most American families, and a place where they spend most of their time, the industry of home construction often correlates with commodity pricing. We at Andrew Roby, Inc. feel so differently about the product we deliver. We offer our clients the best quality and experience, which is certainly not a commodity. When competing against commodity-minded firms, we find that potential clients are often sidetracked by the same false promises and pitfalls. Knowing these may save you a lot of grief.
